2026-07-26
Bayt al-Hikma - Department of Economic Studies, in cooperation with Al-Baydar Center for Studies and Planning, held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, a launch ceremony for the Iraqi Economy Report titled "Reading and Evaluation of the Iraqi Economic Reality for the Period 2020–2025." The session was moderated by Dr. Rasool Salim Mseir from the Department of Economic Studies, who hosted the report's preparation team and several specialized researchers.
The session opened with a speech by Prof. Dr. Falah Hassan Thweni, Supervisor of the Department of Economic Studies, during which he reviewed the report prepared by Al-Baydar Center for Studies and Planning, praising this research effort that provides a forward-looking vision that places decision-makers before the responsibility of transitioning toward a productive and diversified economy; one that guarantees the rights of future generations and frees the state from the constraints of unproductive economic dominance.
Meanwhile, the head of the report's preparation team presented a detailed overview of the study and the data upon which it was based, along with a review of the report's main themes, which included: the general framework of the Iraqi economy, fiscal and monetary policy, the banking sector in Iraq, the stock market, and trade policy. Furthermore, he outlined the primary objective of issuing the report; as Al-Baydar Center for Studies and Planning seeks, through the recommendations included in the report, to offer an accurate diagnosis of the structural imbalances facing the state, while proposing alternatives to enhance the economy's resilience against internal bloat and external shocks. This report gains special importance as the first report on the Iraqi economy to be issued by a non-governmental organization. |
