The Husseini Renaissance and Scientific Research: An Academic Foundation for an Enduring Cause Toward a Renaissance Intellectual Project

23-07-2026

The Husseini Renaissance and Scientific Research: An Academic Foundation for an Enduring Cause Toward a Renaissance Intellectual Project

The Islamic Studies Department at the Iraqi House of Wisdom, in cooperation with the Research and Studies Directorate of the Shiite Endowment Diwan, organized a scientific seminar on Thursday, 23 July 2026, entitled "The Husseini Renaissance and Scientific Research: An Academic Foundation for an Enduring Cause Toward a Renaissance Intellectual Project", held at Al-Khwarizmi Hall.

The seminar was moderated by Mr. Adel Abdul Karim Hassan, Director of the Public Relations Department at the Research and Studies Directorate, while Dr. Sajida Mohammed Ali, Head of the Performance Evaluation Department at the Iraqi House of Wisdom, served as the rapporteur.

The seminar highlighted the Husseini Renaissance and its fundamental objectives, presenting it as a historical event that remains one of the most influential episodes in Islamic history, capable of reshaping collective awareness across generations.

The seminar opened with a lecture by Dr. Ammar Al-Mousawi, Director General of the Research and Studies Directorate at the Shiite Endowment Diwan. He explored the intellectual dimensions of the Husseini Renaissance and the messages it has conveyed throughout history. He also discussed the personality of Imam Al-Hussein (peace be upon him) and his role in consolidating the foundations of Islamic monotheistic belief, including the principles of Tawhid (the Oneness of God), Prophethood, and the Hereafter. Furthermore, he reviewed a number of narrations related to the Husseini Renaissance, emphasizing that Imam Al-Hussein's (peace be upon him) uprising was a reformative project aimed at safeguarding justice, religion, and the values of truth and reform.

Professor Marwan Sabah Yaseen, a member of the Advisory Team of the Islamic Studies Department, presented a research paper entitled "The Husseini Renaissance and the Problematic of Epistemological Foundation: Toward a Contemporary Renaissance Intellectual Project." His paper examined the Husseini Renaissance as an integrated epistemological system and analyzed the challenges of establishing its epistemological foundations within contemporary Islamic studies. The research also explored the role of scientific inquiry in reconstructing its civilizational meanings, employing descriptive, analytical, and critical methodologies, while drawing on modern scientific approaches to examine the Husseini Renaissance, its epistemological structure, and its underlying foundations.

The seminar was attended by a number of researchers and intellectuals whose interventions and discussions enriched the proceedings.
